A very interesting letter from Sir William Lemon to Col.Williams. Covers various matters, makes mention of 'the Plan for the Defence of the Country' along with matters relating to family including his nephew Juhn Buller. The letter also mentions matter pertaining to the death of Sir Lionel Copley. Maria Buller his sister is mentioned also.  Finally a mention of Lady Lemon who was experiencing some health problems.


A very interesting letter. Signed and dated 'Whitehall, March 19th 1806.


Sir William Lemon (1748 - 1824) Educated at Christ Church, Oxford. Member of Parliament for Penryn 1770-1774 & Cornwall 1774-1824, a total of 54 years. He was created Baronet Lemon of Carclew, Cornwall on 24th May 1774. He married Jane, the eldest daughter of James Buller MP for Cornwall. His father, also William Lemon was married to Anne, the daughter of John Williams of Carnanton. The Col.Williams of Carnanton who is the addressee of this letter must be a relation.


Sir Lionel Copley (1707 - 1806) was the son of Sir Joseph Copley, 1st Bt. and Mary Buller. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Copley (GB 1778) on 16th April 1781. He was a member of Parliament for Tregony in 1796.
