'Greville Ewing. 'ALS' Folded Folio Autographed Letter. 3pp. 55lines. Dated Glasgow, 10 July 1826'


Addressed to Rev.William Orme, 7 Grove Lane, Camberwell, London. It concerns his representation of 'a Committee of the Society of Dissenting Ministers in Glasgow...a bill for building additional places of worship in Scotland was thrown out last session etc etc. Small piece lost outer margin back page. Date stamped. With contemporary portrait of Revd Greville Ewing, Glasgow. Complete with original stamped red wax seal.


Ewing was the primary architect of Scottish Congregationalism. Worked closely with the Haldane brothers til their defection to the Baptist cause. After this he organised the Glasgow Theological Academy (1809), the Congregational Union of Scotland (1812), together with Ralph Wardlaw.
